Why I support moon sighting for Ramdan and EID

The earth rotation time to its own axis is 23 hours, 56 minutes, 4.06 seconds and it takes earth about 365.24 days to go around the sun.  For sake of our easy life and under Gregorian Calendar, we count a day with 24 hour and consider a year with 365 days and since we don't follow nature, we need to adjust every once a while such as for leap year or DST.

Some people think that Gregorian calendar is very old (start from birth of Jesus), and it is incorrect.  The Gregorian calendar was started not too long ago.  It was adopted in 1582.  We used to follow Julian calendar before we adopted Gregorian calendar.   A extreme major change was done under Gregorian calendar in September 1752 when 12 days were eliminated.  The September 1752 had date "14" after date "2".  Not sure how many more changes will come in future in order to adjust our time with nature as we did not follow nature from day one to begun.

It is very sad to know that some of us have start following pre-calculated method of Ramadan/EID on based of a system which is not accurate to began.  Even what so called pre-calculated lunar method is not pure "islamic/hijri" calendar.  The nature hijri calendar is not same as lunar calendar.  Common known lunar calendar is known as "lunisolar calendar" which is not necessary same as Hijri calendar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_calendar

Let me share one more info about lunar pre-calculation.  The first day of pre-calculated method under lunar cycle is not same as for Islamic/Hijri calcuation.  The first day under lunar calculation is when moon has crossed sun and may still be 100% invisible. Under Hijri calcuation, the first day of lunar month is when moon has crossed the sun and is visible, also known as crescent moon.  Here is another quote from US Naval Observatory which does the per-determine lunar calculation.  (http://aa.usno.navy.mil/faq/docs/islamic.php)

"The visibility of the lunar crescent as a function of the Moon's "age" - the time counted from New Moon - is obviously of great importance to Muslims. The date and time of each New Moon can be computed exactly (see, for example, Phases of the Moon inData Services) but the time that the Moon first becomes visible after the New Moon depends on many factors and cannot be predicted with certainty. In the first two days after the New Moon, the young crescent Moon appears very low in the western sky after sunset, and must be viewed through bright twilight. It sets shortly after sunset. The sighting of the lunar crescent within one day of New Moon is usually difficult. The crescent at this time is quite thin, has a low surface brightness, and can easily be lost in the twilight. Generally, the lunar crescent will become visible to suitably-located, experienced observers with good sky conditions about one day after New Moon. However, the time that the crescent actually becomes visible varies quite a bit from one month to another. The record for an early sighting of a lunar crescent, with a telescope, is 12.1 hours after New Moon; for naked-eye sightings, the record is 15.5 hours from New Moon. These are exceptional observations and crescent sightings this early in the lunar month should not be expected as the norm. For Islamic calendar purposes, the sighting must be made with the unaided eye."

In the Name of God, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful

"Serve Allah, and join not any partners with Him; and do good - to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbors who are near, neighbors who are strangers, the companion by your side, the wayfarer you meet, and what your right hands possess: For Allah loves not the arrogant, the vainglorious."

[Quran, Verses 4:36]
